The IDCA drew leading lights from design and culture to Aspen, Colorado for five days of picnics, movies, hikes, workshops, late-night drinks at the bar of the Hotel Jerome—and, of course, talks. The board of directors for the 1983 conference included architect Moshe Safdie and Milton Glaser, the designer responsible for the “I Love NY” campaign. Among the speakers were jazz musician and producer Billy Taylor, director Francis Ford Coppola, and Nobel Prize laureate in physiology or medicine Gerald Edelman.
